Meet Evanston's Creative Class this June

As many of you know I'm an Evanston Newbie laser focused on celebrating and growing awareness for the arts in Evanston. This year marks my third year on the Evanston Arts Council as Co-Chair, a volunteer position for the City of Evanston that I take very seriously and love very deeply. (Who loves a volunteer position? Me, when it involves the arts.)

Sitting on the Evanston Arts Council allows me access to news and info about arts projects and programming happening all over Evanston. One project that wasn't happening when I blew into town 4 years ago was an art crawl or studio tour of visual arts in Evanston. I found it shocking and illegal that there was no studio crawl given the high concentration of makers, creators and artists living here and decided to make one happen.

Last year I worked with a group of volunteers and almost 100 artists to create the first annual Open Studios Evanston, providing access to art studios, galleries and boutiques to the public. This year we will do the event again on June 6th with an opening on June 4.

The event website is at http://openstudiosevanston.blogspot.com/

The creative class in Evanston is thriving and growing and events like this help engage makers and creators with the public. Learn more about the participating artists on the Facebook page and below. If you want to join the event, email me at openstudiosevanston@gmail.com
